Microsoft Research ConferenceXP

The ConferenceXP research platform enables researchers and developers to create distributed applications that take advantage of ConferenceXP technology as well as Tablet PCs and wireless networks. It also enables them to develop the collaborative tools and applications they need without having to build them from the ground up.

Design Rationale

Our vision is a design environment with intelligence embedded in the environment, allowing designers to work in familiar ways in familiar media (e.g., whiteboards), yet give those media new and powerful capabilities (e.g., the ability to understand a sketch, ask intelligent questions about a design, etc.).

Classroom Presenter

The basic goals of Classroom Presenter are to provide instructors with increased flexibility in delivering a presentation and to facilitate interaction with the audience. Presenter is a distributed presentation system for the Tablet PC. As a distributed system, synchronized versions of the presentation are shared across instructor, public, and student machines. The Tablet PC allows high quality ink annotations. The digital ink can then be sent from student tablets to the instructor for review or public display.

MathPad

MathPad is a prototype Tablet PC application for mathematical problem solving. At the core of its functionality is the novel concept of mathematical sketching, making dynamic illustrations by combining handwritten mathematics and free-form diagrams. MathPad 2 is designed so a user can create simple illustrations as if they were working with pencil and paper. Teachers can use MathPad 2 to quickly create illustrations to be used in their lessons and students can use the application to aid in their studies.
