Tunnelling theory and practice

In todays news:
Canadian border tunnel was elaborate

or as reported at: <http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/233644_tunnel22.html>
Drug-smuggling tunnel under Canadian tunnel was elaborate

U.S. Attorney John McKay said "They were smart enough to build a sophisticated tunnel..." what he didn't say was that they were stupid enough to build it between the US and Canada. Why not just walk across the border? Why not just throw bags of weed over the border or paddle it across in Canoes? Why bother embarking on a major engineering feet (aka a long hole in the ground) than these other options?

I mean if I wanted to sneak from the Media Lab into the Stata center I could easily harpoon a zip line to the top of gates tower, or I could build a sub-sub tunnel into the sub-sub basement of building 34 and then covertly cross over into Stata.

Another question that must be raised is how much of the smuggled weed did the reporter smoke when before writing the headline? Exactly which Canadian Tunnel did the drug tunnel, tunnel under? Maybe they should next investigate under the Chunnel to make sure there isn't a Canadian drug tunnel running drugs from the fertile marijuana fields of Nova Scotia and PEI all the way to France and the UK.

Come smirk at stupid smugglers at tonights...
