The philosophy of "Pervasive Computing" underlying Project Oxygen has been spectacularly successful at bringing oodles and oodles of money into the building.

If computer science has taught us one thing, it's that if a little of something is good (e.g abstraction, indirection,) a whole lot of it is even better!

Therefore, today we will be brainstorming new "substance-themed" project descriptions aimed at shaking even more money out of corporate pockets. Each project definition will consist of a title substance, a theme, and the types of sponsors it targets as "partners". A handful of examples from our early brainstorming sessions:

Project: Oxygen Theme: Pervasive Computing Partners: Mainstream computer companies; Japan Status: wildly successful

Project: Vaseline Theme: Invasive Computing Partners: Medical imagery companies; the Discovery channel Status: pilot project underway in the MIT legal dep't

Project: Latex Theme: Perverted Computing Partners: Media Lab; adult entertainment industry Status: UROPs hired to perform extensive preliminary research on web

Project: Tobacco Theme: Carcinogenic Computing Partners: Philip Morris; Al Gore Status: waiting for Al "the tobacco farmer's friend" Gore to replace Al "big tobacco is evil" Gore

Project: Acid Theme: Hallucinogenic Computing Partners: Harvard; MIT undergraduate dormitories Status: project leader is away on "trip", expected back when Thorazine wears off

Please help us generate more ideas this evening! Our goal is to have not less than $1.5 billion in boondoggle proposals by the end of tonight's...
