To: all-ai Subject: Important GSB Addendum --text follows this line-- Sorry to bother you again folks, but it's really really urgent. See, Oded's been buying the beer lately, and he is, um, impulsive. Guess what he bought this week: a whole case of Sam Adams Triple Bock. I'm not sure I can describe Sam Adams Triple Bock to you, so I'll stick to the superficials. It comes in a thin blue bottle. With a cork, and sealed with a rubber sheath. Around the neck is a small bungee cord tied to a paper label. The label says, and I quote: You are about to enjoy one of the world's most extraordinary beers. Samuel Adams Triple Bock should be savored like a fine cognac or a vintage port. Serve at room tem- perature. Pour a few ounces into a wine glass or a brandy snifter. Savor the aroma. Take a sip. Let your head fill with flavors you have never found in any beer. ............(next page)................ Samuel Adams Triple Bock has the complexity and nobility of a great wine. This special beer is like no other beer. It begins with almost a pound of malt per bottle, carefully mashed to produce an extraordinary original gravity of 40 degrees Plato. The result- ing wort is patiently blended with maple syrup and a generous amount of English hops. A warm and extremely vigorous fermentation follows. Just before fermentation is complete, the brew is transferred to charred oak barrels for long and slow aging. This aging adds another rich layer of flavors- vanilla and dark fruit. Slowly the flavors mellow into roundness. .............(next page)................ When the finished liquid is ready for drinking, the wooden barrels are tapped and bottled. The cork finish preserves the delicate flavors and allows each bottle to be closed and enjoyed in several servings. This unique beer will continue to mature and develop in the bottle. Store upright until opening and then on its side to keep the cork moist. I hope you will enjoy sipping this beer as much as we enjoyed making it. Because this beer is like nothing ever brewed, we don't yet know how long it will continue to mature. If you would like to receive updates from us .............(next page)................ every six months or so, please write to us at the Boston Beer Company, The Brewery, 30 Germania St., Boston, MA 02130. We'll let you know how this first bottling is developing and share our tasting notes with you. Cheers! James Koch The Boston Beer Company The important information: it goes well with moo shi pork. Because it tastes like soy sauce. But anyway, apparently if you buy a bottle and keep it, it might be worth a lot someday. That's what Dave tells me and he seems like a trustworthy kind of guy. The stuff costs a fortune. Ninety bucks a case. So we'll be selling it off at $3.50 a bottle instead of the usual $1.50. But you'll be drinking a beer that's in the Guinness Book of World Records for highest alcoholic content, and that's got to count for something. And most important of all, Sam Adams Triple Bock has been carefully mashed to produce an extraordinary original gravity of 40 degrees Plato. For those of you who, like me, haven't got the faintest clue what the hell that means, you can always have a root beer or something in the 25 Plato range.
