DDR is a dance game described here.
We will have two dance mats set up in G451 on February 2nd 2pm–5pm and
it should only take you five minutes to participate. Here are the
rules:
- Players can play on the keyboard (using their fingers to control the
arrows) OR on the dance mat.
- People may play as many times as they'd like; however, preference will
always be given to players who have played the fewest times. I will count
your best score on the keyboard and the dance mat.
- Keyboard play is easier; however, if I decide that you are an
experienced player, I will play against you and your keyboard score will be
scaled to 25 million points (i.e., I will replace your score with:
your score × (25 million)/(my score),
where 25 million kind of defines "experienced player"). This will only
hurt you if I can get more than 25 million points (i.e., if it's a
long and difficult song). Basically this means that nobody can
do over-well on the typing part.
- A player can choose not to play the typing game, but will receive
no points if they do not play the dance game. That's right: there's
no escaping the embarrassment here!
- A team's score is proportional to the sum of its players scores; a
player's score is:
50 × 106 + 0.5 × max{typing score, dancing score} + 0.5 × dancing score
Typical scores fall well under fifty million points and the typing score is
sort of bounded above by 25 million points, so the score is weighted toward
participation.
