GSB (Girl Scout Benefit)
What: sit around chat and sip foamy beverages
Where: 7th floor playroom
When: Every gosh darn Friday at 5:30-???
Who: Everyone including students, faculty, staff, friends, and others
It has come to my attention that not all of you actually know what GSB
is. This is a grave oversight on all of our parts. GSB is a delightful
Friday, evening activity where you can meet with your fellow (past and
present) NE43 denizens. We provide (for a nominal fee) a wide selection
of delightful fizzy foamy beverages that can take your mind off your
thesis, your lesson plan, your crashing server, etc...
We discuss pretty much anything BUT computers and research. Ok maybe a
bit from time to time but if you whip out a laptop or start blabbing on
about your thesis expect to be run out of town. There are lots of other
opportunities for that and this isn't one of them.
We start at 5:30 on the 7th floor playroom and go until everyone (or all
the foamy stuff) is gone (6,7,8... whenever).
History:
GSB stands for Girl Scout Benefit. Once upon a time there were actual
girl scouts actually benefiting from our toils by getting deposits for
empty bottles (supposedly). Those days (assuming that the were) are no
more. But we carry on our bottle emptying toils all the same.
The AI lab has been doing it for years. To see some of the old message
archives check out: http://www.ai.mit.edu/lab/gsb/ As tradition
dictates we send out a funny, topical, witty, silly, nonsensical, or
harshly bitting, email to announce the weekly event. Now that AI =>
CSAIL all of your email boxes have the honor of getting these messages*.
So come check it out. We promise not to bite. It really is a great
tradition and more fun than a barrel of monkeys.
If you have any more questions please feel free to send them to me or
the den-mothers@
Cheers,
Mike (and all the rest of the den-mothers).
(*) It has come to our attention that not everyone likes our emails.
While my feelings are bruised (not really) I understand this. However,
we think it is a really great tradition and we would like to keep it up
and we want to continue to tantalize you in the hopes that you will show
up some day. If you really don't like seeing these messages in your
inbox we will include "gsb:" at the beginning of every subject line.
This should make it very easy to filter and then you never have to hear
from us again.http://whereis.mit.edu/bin/map?locate=bldg_ne43
