Patriot's Day

A couple of quick notes before all of you stop reading this message. In
case you don't know, Boston and Cambridge are hosting the Olympic
Women's Marathon trial this Sunday. It's a loop course and runs back and
forth over the Harvard (Mass Ave) bridge and Memorial Drive in front of
MIT. For more info check out: http://bostontrials2008.com/ (They start
at 8am so don't miss it.) The other note is that we've restocked our
supplies this week. Now on to the message:

Spring is here. The weather is warm and Patriots' Day is almost upon us.

For those of you that don't know, Patriots' Day is when the American
Revolutionary War started and is celebrated in Massachusetts and Maine
(because Maine was a part of Massachusetts then). There are a bunch of
reenactments where people pretend to shoot and stab each other. It's
great fun.

The day starts out badly for the future-Americans when the British shoot
and kill some of the militia, but in the end the British end up
retreating. There was lots of confusion and miscommunication, and the
colonists could have killed more of the British, but they were happy to
let them retreat. Anyway, we all know how the story ends.

Here at MIT we have have two days off! Monday is so that we can go run
in (or watch) the Marathon and celebrate Patriot's Day, and Tuesday is
so that we can recover from running (or watching) the Marathon and from
all that celebrating. There's the added bonus of a really early baseball
game (11am). At GSB, we're giving away a free beverage to anyone who is
running in either of the marathons.

Come discuss your weekend plans and who you think is going to win the
marathons at this week's...
