I generally walk around without my shoes on. I think they're
overrated. People often ask me why, and I just point to this CNN
article explaining how shoes are not only small torture chambers (as a
certain Arab man I know is apt to say), but they can be the highest of
insults, apparently.

Apropos the article, can you believe the hype? I love this country as
much as the next gun-hoarding redneck, but when I first saw this video
back in September, I laughed my ass off. Not because it's insulting,
not because I'm particularly anti-Bush, not because al-Zaidi is a lousy
shot, but because of the reaction in the room at the time. Stares.
Faces filled with nothing but awe and surprise. A pink dragon may as
well have walked across the center of the room; the reaction would have
been the same.
But I digress. Shoes are unnecessary. Let's talk "shoes" at this week's
