[csail-related] GSB Tonight: Pets

I was asked last night whether I am a dog person or a cat person. The story goes on, but the point is, it got me thinking about pets.

Last weekend the Blender foundation released their newest film, Sintel. It's almost 15 minutes long, and revolves around ...

MINOR SPOILER ALERT

... Sintel's pet dragon. My fist thought when watching this was, "Maybe I'm a *dragon* person." that would be pretty epic: a pet dragon. If only I could find one ...

END MINOR SPOILER

Instead, there are pigeons everywhere. "Rats with wings" some people call them, because of this exceptional skill at transmitting disease. These are not pet material. And yet, out of the corner of my eye while walking down the street today, I saw a pidgin on a leash. Let me write that again. I saw a *pigeon* on a *leash*! Someone had captured a pigeon (I guess) and tamed it (it seemed). When I looked directly at the pair, though, I realized I had imagined the whole thing. The pigeon flew away and the man walked on, neither having a second thought for the other.

This makes me wonder: What if you saw this? It seems to me it would be a visual delight and a surprise. Maybe it would even be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. And if someone could do it, how would they go about setting this up? Are there "pigeon people" in existence (that aren't bat-skat crazy)?

Final question: how awesome would it be to see a pigeon on a leash in one of next year's CSAIL Olympics videos (assuming no animals are harmed in it's making)?

These intriguing topics and more await you at this week's:
