[csail-related] GSB Tonight: Seasons.

Was it just me, or did winter last a really long time? I mean seriously.
By my count it lasted around a full half year [1]--November until April.
At least it wasn't particularly harsh.

That's the funny thing about the Boston area--it's cold in the winter.
Really cold. Far too cold, if you ask me (and for far too long). This
has made me and my almost-wife [2] start thinking about where we want to
settle down after I graduate.

Actually, let me digress for a second. I was talking with my cousin the
other month. He can't come to my wedding, because he's being deployed
to Afghanistan. It's pretty scary. He's on the German side of my family,
so people are more nervous than proud [3]. We talked a bit--he's almost
served long enough to quit--and so we started talking about what he would
do when he got out. He knew exactly. It occurred to me that being in the
army (as an N.C.O. or below) is just like being in prison: you know what
you're going to do when you get out; you've thought a lot about it. Then
it occurred to me that grad school is just the opposite [4]. Generally,
you have no idea what you're going to do, because you're so busy working on
your thesis.

So back to the point. The weather has made me start to think about life
after MIT. Hopefully it'll be warm [5].

Let's talk about the war(s) at this week's:

Once you are in 32, just take the G-elevator to the 9th
floor and we will be in the lounge that you will be looking at

[1] I've been trying to get "a full half [x]" into one of these messages
for a while, now. I think it sounds funny. One more task off my bucket
list ^_^
[2] We're getting married in less than a month ... crazy. Some people
still haven't RSVP'd, can you believe it?!
[3] I'm not sure about your German families, but my German family doesn't
see any good reason for *the US* to be over there, let alone Germany.
[4] That's probably a good thing.
[5] Hawaii would be nice, eh?
