Date: Thu 22 Oct 87 23:56:49-EDT From: "John T. Wroclawski" Subject: Special seminar, Friday at 5 To: 7ai%OZ.AI.MIT.EDU@XX.LCS.MIT.EDU Many of our readers have expressed concern and confusion regarding recent events in the world financial markets. We are particularly pleased this week to have with us Mr. Ivan Brewsky, a noted authority in this field, who will speak briefly about current events. His abstract follows: Observers of the stock market often categorize it as either a generally rising "bull" market or a generally falling "beer" market. The "bull" market takes its name from the large number of participants, called "bulls", who support the market by passing worthless and misdirected hype off to each other as important information. The "beer" market is characterised by a sudden loss of pressure, followed by unusual reactions, interesting stories, and occasional giddy or wobbly feelings, similar to behavior experienced by one who has recently opened a bottle of beer. My talk this week will focus on the social effects of the impending beer market. Examples and practical advice will be given. Friday, 5:00. 7AI playroom. All come.
