Return-Path: From: cgdemarc@ai.mit.edu (Carl de Marcken) Date: Thu, 2 Dec 93 22:46:08 EST To: all-ai Subject: GSB Friday 5:30 I say to you today, my friends, that in spite of the frustrations of the moment I still have a dream. I have a dream that one day this lab will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident- that all hackers are equal". I have a dream that one day in the seventh floor playroom the students and professors will be able to sit down together and enjoy lunch, not just tk and welg and Lynn but all professors. I have a dream that one day even the eighth floor, a desert floor sweltering with the heat of humorlessness and closed doors, will be transformed into an oasis of comradery and fellowship. I have a dream that my UROPs will one day live in a lab where they will be judged not by their age or ability to formalize a proof but by the content of their character. I have a dream today. I have a dream that one day the faculty, whose offices are hidden behind secretaries and locks, will remember their roots and be transformed into a body that participates in the AI Olympics and GSB and attends revolving seminars and explains funding issues fully and informatively. I have a dream today. I have a dream where students and professors walk together and, as a single unified entity, openly criticize losing ideas. Come, give substance to my dream, and join me at this week's G I R L S C O U T B E N E F I T on Friday, December 3rd at 5:30 in the 7th floor playroom.
