In light of the recent "Unabomb" letter-bomb attacks, we have installed a
filter on life that should protect the lab from most explosive e-mail
messages. But, as a precaution, here are some tips for how to recognize an
e-mailed letter-bomb. If you think you have received a letter-bomb, delete
the message IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT READ IT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!

Common Characteristics of E-Mail Letter Bombs:

1. Incorrect or mistyped address on message. For instance, a message sent
to "all-ai" but delivered to you should be deleted immediately.

2. Excessive re-routing from strange locations:

	Resent-From: cc.fc.ul.pt@cc.fc.ul.pt
Old-Received: from nora.hd.uib.no by alfie.uib.no with SMTP (PP) id
	              <22318-0@alfie.uib.no>; Fri, 12 May 1995 00:44:57 +0200
	Old-Received: from skull.cc.fc.ul.pt by nora.hd.uib.no with SMTP
		      id AA04488
	              (5.65c8/IDA-1.4.4 for <CORPORA@hd.uib.no>); Fri, 12 May 1995
	              00:48:20 +0200
	Old-Received: from skull.cc.fc.ul.pt by skull.cc.fc.ul.pt id aa25591;

To protect their anonymity e-mail bombers will often send their messages
through a variery of intermediaries, probably in Finland.

3. Oily residue on packaging, wires visible or protruding, and CAPITAL
   LETTERS in the Subject Line.

4. Messages containing strange symbols. Most e-mail bombs are constructed
from special text that causes the monitor to explode. A sample
   (defused) is given below.
