Coincidences, coincidences everywhere! Did you know that on this day in 1522, the first circumnavigation of the globe was completed by Juan de Elcano? And in addition, on this day in 1920 the first US Air Mail service began. Coincidence? I think not. Did you know that on this day in 1892, an early version of the Pledge of Allegiance appeared in print? Ironically, this same day in 1974, president Ford pardoned Richard M. Nixon. Coincidence? I think not. Did you know that on this day in 1858, Lincoln made a speech saying that you can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time (or something like that). 108 years later on that same day, Star Trek debuted on TV. Its popularity today proves Lincoln wrong. Coincidence? I think not. Did you know that today is International Literacy Day? Ten years ago today, USA WEEKEND came out, disputing the idea that you need to be literate to look at a newspaper. Coincidence? I think not. Did you know that today is the first GSB of the semester? I didn't think so. Join us as we discuss these coincidences and coincidently have some refreshing beverages available at G I R L S C O U T B E N E F I T Today, September 8th, 1995, at 5:30 in the 7th floor playroom.
