From: oded@ai.mit.edu (Oded Maron) Date: Fri, 26 Jul 1996 14:27:33 -0400 To: all-ai Subject: GSB, today at 5:30 I had a milkshake the other day in MacDonalds (yes, I know they're not made with actual milk). They have a promotion, where if the US wins a medal in the event that the sticker on your shake (or burger) shows, then you win something. I eagerly peeled back my sticker, and found that I had a Big Mac riding on 74kg greco-roman wrestling. Suddenly, my interest in the sport was rekindled and I was very much interested in American hopeful Gordy Morgan --- http://www.olympic.nbc.com/sports/wrestling/bios/morgan.html Unfortunately, he seemed unlikely to medal since his best finish in international competition was seventh place at the 1993 World Championships. My free Big Mac was in jeopardy. But then I remembered - hey! I'm 74kg (well, a little bit less) and I'm Polish-German (which is pretty damn close to Greco-Roman), so off to Atlanta I went. I promised to bring home the gold (or at least the golden taste of a Big Mac). I won my first match, but then lost my next two (must be the steroids). While I didn't come home bearing gold, I was still a winner in NBC's eyes. You may have caught the in-depth spot about my struggles with vegetarians. The low attendance in recent GSBs convinced GSB management to offer a similar promotion. Each bottle will have a peel-back sticker. If NBC broadcasts more than 30 seconds of the sport on your sticker - your drink is free! Join us at GSB to hear cries of "Damn! Badminton again" or "Women's Team Handball - I have a chance!"
