Date: Fri, 16 Aug 1996 16:27:15 -0400 From: Carl de Marcken To: ai-tech-sq Subject: GSB, Friday August 16th, 5:30, 7AI Taking our cue from NBC's Olympics coverage, this week's GSB will attempt to attract a greater share of the Tech Square market by putting a slightly different face on social gatherings. You see, the beer drinkers and root beer drinkers are going to show up no matter what happens. They are wanting souls that have no definition appart from our weekly gathering. They need drinks and the chance to talk about the impending demise of Netscape, Apple and, of course, Symbolics. While they may not be happy about the new changes to GSB, they have no recourse but to accept the inevitable. Research conducted during the Barcelona GSBs indicates that women, faculty members and rich people are not particularly interested in socializing with other lab members, and may even be repulsed by the smell of Guinness. So this week, the Girl Scout Benefit will feature Lemonade Wine Coolers Bailey's Irish Cream and Scones Furthermore, before every sip of a beverage, Marilyn Pierce will tell a whimsical or poignant story about the drinker. As she speaks, background music by Vangelis will manipulate listeners' emotions. ATT and IBM will show videos on the whiteboard explaining how beer drinkers from around the world converge every week for a few hours of peace and companionship, all made possible by the global information infrastructure. And in the end, the participants may or may not actually open their bottles, but that won't really matter, because that's not what GSB is all about, is it? So come to this week's Girl Scout Benefit. Our ratings are up!
