Jeremy stuffs the ballot box

On March 11, 1992 the ballot box for the UA (Undergraduate Association)
council elections was stolen causing controversy and mayhem. A group known
as the Student Revolutionary Government (SRG) claimed responsibility for the
action (footnotes 1,2).

	On April 15, 1992 Jeremy Brown, Ross A. Lippert '93, Valerie J. Ohm '93,
Ralph A. Santos '92, and Yesley were brought to trial on charges of stealing
the ballots on which Jeremy Brown was a candidate for VP. Later on all but
Brown were sentenced to community service and a $60 fine and Brown became
the UA vice president.

Why was Brown acquitted and allowed to become one of the most powerful
leaders of the MIT student body? Was he involved in the plot to steal the
ballots to further his run for Vice President. Did he betray his
accomplices and leave them to hang alone, as he said of the SRG's leader:
?My personal feeling is that they should nail him to a tree. (footnote 1)?
Or perhaps he associated himself with the plot as a media stunt to gain
publicity, knowing that he would be acquitted.

Flash forward to 2002. Again the UA elections are plagued by controversy
as an extremist group proposed to redistribute the UA discretionary funds
among their voters should they win the election. How was this plot
conceived? Who is its mastermind? Does the Student Revolutionary
Government live on? Are these two incidents separated by 10 year related?
Is this a last ditch effort of (the soon to be Dr.) J. Brown to leave his
mark on UA politics? Find out tonight at a special press conference with
Brown at this evenings GSB!
