a set of remarkable coincidences struck me today - how similar my life as a grad 
student has become to my former life as a pre-schooler.  consider the typical 
day in the life of mark a. foltz, pre-schooler, and mark a. foltz, grad student:

          pre-school                    grad school
          ----------                    -----------

10 am    get driven to school because  get driven to school because
          i don't have a car            i don't have a car

11 am    play with blocks              play with a linux box

12 pm    lunch from my dukes of        lunch from my discount tupperware
          hazzard lunch box

1 pm     nap time                      nap time

1:30 pm  juice and cookies             tea and cookies

2 pm     story time:                   story time:
          `the poky little puppy'       `brains and machines'

4 pm     get driven home because       get driven home because
          i don't have a car            i don't have a car

have you noticed the same thing?  un-regress with an adult beverage at tonight's
