alas, the lab has fallen behind in the high-stakes field of parlor game
computing. we thought we had leapt ahead with our wise purchase of the foos
table, but just today we got scooped by ibm on another front:
``Using a novel computing technique that resembles an elaborately staged
billiards trick shot, I.B.M. scientists have created what they say is not only
the world's smallest logic circuit, but also possibly the smallest that could
ever be made.'' [ new york times ]
how could we have forgetten the computational nature of pool? our students
and scientists need access to the latest equipment for their pool computing
research and the the time to catch up to ibm is now.
