But Officer...

Here's a collection of odd quotes from some odd stories (all true
according to the AP):

Va. pol pounces on cat-theft inequality
"All I'm trying to do is have the law reflect that if you steal a dog
or steal a cat, the punishment should be the same"
"wrestled with such issues as whether to add other pets, including
hamsters and parakeets"
"notion that the law treats cats differently because many are feral"
"Supporters of the bill are informally calling it "Ernie's Law" in
honor of the kitten whose ordeal inspired the legislation"
" [the] kitten... was sick and needed prescription medication. They
met at a Richmond junkyard to make the exchange."

But officer, it's just a lawn mower
"A New Zealand man has been charged with driving a lawn mower while
drunk"
"using the lawn mower to get around town since losing his license"
"Even bicycles went faster than the lawn mower's 5 mph"
"Police impounded the lawn mower for 28 days."

Never, never spit gasoline while smoking
"... mixed up a bottle of gasoline with alcohol"
"grabbed the wrong bottle and took a swig from the gasoline flask,
then spat it out when he realized his mistake"
"The gas hit a lit cigarette, sparking the fire"
