Be careful what you write; it might end up in the Google

I liked Facebook more when it was more age group limited. In other words
it was just college-age students and not ridiculous teens in high school
posting photos of themselves doing stupid things. (A-rod would say
"young and stupid.") And definitely not say people my parent's age.

Facebook seemed to have less of the complete insanity that is myspace.
It seemed like a good way to keep in touch with friends. I think one of
the things I liked was that I didn't really have to think too hard about
what I was posting on Facebook because I cranked up the privacy settings
so it was just my friends who could see it. This is not to say I posted
objectionable material online, but just that the audience was small and
friendly. I didn't have to worry or think about whether it would be in
some google archive forever (like this message will be) or who might
read or look at it or something one of my friends said.

Now I'm getting all these friend requests from relatives who are either
a) distant or b) much older or c) both. In my family, information
traveling time seems to violate space-time laws and somehow arrive at
some unintended destination before it's even left. It leaves me with a
dilemma -- do I add these people or not? Do I make a subgroup or start
cranking up my privacy settings even more? Do I just think extra long
about what I'm posting (like the use of the Presidential BlackBerry)? Do
I just not add them? Not adding them seems suboptimal, since they'll
know I didn't add them.

I really liked it better when I didn't have to think about these things.
Suggestions welcome at this week's...
