[csail-related] GSB Tonight: Biking.

I've never really liked bicyclists [1]. At UCI [2] they were constantly
riding on ring road and acting sporadically. They seemed to have the
largest population of unmindful people of any group at that school. At the
time I counted myself among them and hated them more for it, because they
got the shit banned out of biking at UCI. There were only special places
you could bike and none of them were connected, so there was really no
point to biking anymore.
Now that I'm in graduate school, my opinion of bikers hasn't changed much.
The only 2 traffic incidents I've had were when I was crossing the street
at night, looked both ways [3] and got hit by a biker--both times without
reflectors or lights going the wrong way down a 1-way street, and once
without a helmet, while wearing headphones and running a red light.
Despite this, I always got really annoyed at pedestrians for walking in the
bike lane [4]. I kind of feel like stopping them and asking why they don't
walk down the middle of the street, instead; after all, there's more room.
So I'm biking again on occasion now. It's a great way to get around, and
even when I follow all the rules of the road, I cut my commute by a factor
of 5 [5].
I think it would be funny to give tickets to pedestrians for walking in the
bike lane and for bikers to drive on the sidewalk. I'm pretty sure it
wouldn't do much to stop any of this behavior, though, and frankly I think
the PD has better things to do that monitor vigilante bikers [6].
Let's talk about what a hypocrite I am at this week's:

Once you are in 32, just take the G-elevator to the 9th
floor and we will be in the lounge that you will be looking at

[1] I would say "flame war time", but I don't see that happening. PROVE ME
WRONG
[2] Where I did my undergrad.
[3] Despite them being 1-way streets--I know to look for bikers.
[4] Can you feel the love?

[6] I'm sure one has inadvertently stopped a crime or seriously injured a
criminal through negligence, if nothing else.
