[csail-related] GSB Tonight: The End

It's no coincidence that a few weeks ago I was telling you all about how
going through graduate school is like being immortal. "How would he know
what being immortal is like?" the astute reader might have asked. Well,
I'll tell you. I'm immortal.

Now this may come as a shock to you. It would to me, certainly, and I've
been around quite some time [1]. But regardless, why am I finally
revealing this to you? Why bring it up now when they say
the Mayans have prophesied the world to end? Because, my comrades of
CSAIL, I was there when they carved that wheel [2]. At the time, 2013
seemed like a long ways off. The Mayans didn't really think that there was
any need to make another one for a while [3].

Actually, I was around back when magic worked, too [4], and I've kept a few
things in the back of my mind. At the time of the wheel's carving, the
Mayans actually wanted it to be a special wheel. They asked that I grant
it the power to end the world unless another one was carved. Well, people:
where's the next wheel? I mean, you can invent the damn internet but you
can't carve a freakin' wheel?

Speaking of the internet, there's been this joke going around. When I get
home tonight, I'm going to carve the next one [5], so I think we should all
do this. The joke is that tomorrow morning we should all pop out of our
houses and start running through the streets screaming, "The Dr. did it!
He saved the world! We're alive! The Dr. did it!". If you'd like, you
can have "Dr." refer to me [6].

Let's see who can guess my age, at this week's:

Once you are in 32, just take the G-elevator to the 9th
floor and we will be in the lounge that you will be looking at

[1] Gives new meaning to the phrase "nth year"
[2] A pasty white guy? Yeah, I was there.
[3] For Pete's sake, their entire civilization ended long before they
needed to; I'd say they were right!
[4] How do you think God performed all those miracles in the Bible, Koran,
and Torah? We started to figure it out, too, but then technology became
more useful.
[5] Worry not. I'm a graduate student, so I have lots of time to carve
giant century-long calendars out of stone.
[6] Old as I am, this will actually be my 17th Ph.D. (Prime number, w00t!)
