[Never been to GSB? This is a perfect opportunity to give it a try.
Stop by say hi have a laugh or two.]
In a press release issued yesterday, CSAIL announced that it was "really
really sorry". Several years ago the AI Lab released a statement that
"We thought it would be a great hack to build a giant statue of Rod
Brooks where building 20 is." The structure was supposed to be
constructed underground and suddenly elevated out of the ground on April
1st.
However, the massive budget overruns forced the AI Lab to bring in
additional funding for the hack and with the agreement of V. Zue, CSAIL
was born. To satiate high powered egos and budget crises the initial
Brooks statue was modified slightly and the new design called for a
"Siamese twins" statue of the directors. The architect, who was
understandably annoyed at the change of plans made a miscalculation in
his computer models and the two 9 story figures went where constructive
solid geometry had never been before. The glitch in the model left only
2 remaining features: the nose and the butt (it is unclear which anatomy
belongs to which statue). At this point it was clear that the hack had
gone wrong but the worst was yet to come.
As the budget overrun continued to sky rocket it became clear that the
CSAIL lab was actually going to have to use the structure as a building
instead of an artistic structure. Early last week, work crews were
dispatched to HomeDepot and designers began designing the furnishings
for the inside of the building using whatever materials they could find.
Fortunately, plywood was on sale and in great supply.
According to the press release the students were originally going to be
informed on April 1st that they did not actually have to live in the
building but the deadline for that announcement has come and gone. The
confused and relocated inhabitants of the new structure are meeting to
discuss their options for their new home and to attempt to identify more
of the original statue structure. Reports indicate that despite the
bizarre turns of events and twists of fate many of the inhabitants have
actually come to grips with their new environment and are actually happy
to be there. Come agree or dissent at the first ever Building 32:
