In preparation for the upcoming Datastructure Networking Convention we
here in the lab need to keep several things in mind about security and
data control. The following policies will be in place starting around
July 20 until the convention clears:
* All packets being passed from the non-MIT to MIT routers will be
subject to search.
* All traffic between csail and google will blocked from 8am to 9am and
5pm to 6pm. People making google searches are requested to take this
period off for vacation or bookmark browsing.
* Since storage will be at a premium, the lab file servers will be
backed up to tape so that the bits can be leased to convention
participants for storing their personal porn and mp3 collections. Your
data will be safely restored when they are done.
* Access to certain servers will be redirected or blocked for reasons of
Datastructure integrity.
* This is a prime opportunity for Crackers looking to destabilize the
networking datastructures of the future. We must all be vigilant.
Please report all suspicious activities to the sysadmins. Suspicious
activity may include (but is not limited to) the use of vi, pine, cpp,
perl and especially awk and sed. Users of these programs may be
crackers because normal people avoid such tools unless they are desperate.
And remember that as difficult as these times will be, we should be
thankful that we don't have to put up with the Recursive Networking
Convention because their bandwidth requirements are unbounded.
